Cycle routes likely to suffer due to lack of investment.

In January BCC asked for comments, via its "Have your Say" website, on the proposed capital budget.

GWC responded to this by expressing concern that whilst the capital programme allocates £250k a year to Footway Structural Repairs over the 4 year planning period no money has been allocated to Structural Repairs to the cycle route system. Without continued investment in repairs and maintenance of existing routes, cycling will never become part of the mainstream of sustainable transport. Particularly important is maintenance of Aylesbury's Gemstone cycle routes on which millions of pounds have been spent in recent years. We asked that BCC acknowledge cycling as an integral part of a sustainable transport programme by including in the capital expenditure programme an allocation for Structural Repairs to cycle routes.

This was copied to Peter Hardy BCC cabinet member for transport. No response has been received but we live in hope.
