Events Organiser Do you want to get involved in a local, active group? Do have you experience of managing people and projects? Could you see yourself running local events? Do you want to inspire people to get more active? We are seeking the help and time of someone who is keen to organise cycling events. Events held so far have been family cycle rides with tea and cake; charity stalls at Wendover, information stalls at Wendover Railway station. Events we would like to run in the future are training events; “get cycling” bike rides (for those who don’t usually get out on their bike for leisure); and events that promote the fun of cycling in new places. We are looking for someone with the following skills and attitudes:
o Keen to give around 4 hours per month on average o Before events (mostly during the summer) hours needed to run an event are likely to be more like 6 – 10 hours a month, for example: An event usually lasts for up to 4 hours and requires around 1 – 2 hours a week in the month leading up to it to manage it and delegate and co-ordinate other volunteers. Like all other roles in the group, this is a volunteer role, although reasonable, receipted and pre-agreed volunteer expenses are paid. Events are agreed by the committee and the Events organiser will be the main source of co-ordination for suggestions to the committee, although attendance at committee meetings is not obligatory (we meet every 6 - 8 weeks for 2 hours) it is the main method of face to face communication in the group, along with phonecalls, emails and ad-hoc discussions about campaigns. If you are interested, contact Laura at laura.ferguson@getwendovercycling.org or call her on 07760383641. Other tasks where a little of your time can make all the difference! As well as these specific roles, the main work of the group gets done by any willing volunteers giving anything from half an hour to write a letter to local councillors and MPs to a few hours helping out at a charity stall. So for our campaigns to improve cycling, for instance, we have specific tasks that all feed into a bigger campaign that are delegated and co-ordinated at the committee meetings. If you would like to give an hour or more of your time to a local campaign group and get involved, if you have any skills you could lend (or improve) and have even an hour to volunteer every month, let us know.
